Energy
Energy is required for everything that requires work. All muscles require energy. For every interaction, energy is involved. So for every person that you interact with, how does their energy show? And, how does that energy get distributed in between and during various interactions (whether physical, biological and/or mental)?
One theory is that energy emanates from specific energy centers within the body, otherwise called Chakras. Chakras are usually defined by 7 different areas (each corresponding to a color of a natural rainbow) – crown (Purple), third eye (Indigo), throat (Blue), heart (Green), solar plexus (Yellow), digestive (Orange), and base / root (Red). Each Chakra has a specific physical location, however they are also defined individually by associated colors, designs and life experiences. Although there are many different representations of this theory, one thing remains the same. We are all made of energy.
From a biological / chemical perspective, it is known that for every muscle contraction to occur, a nerve impulse must be sent. Nerve conduction is commonly measured in the form of milivolts, a measure of electrical conductivity. In the example to the left (Push-up Example ©Primal Pictures Ltd), you can see that muscles are operating at different levels of electrical conduction (produced within the body), during movement.
From a mind / body perspective, studies have shown that positive (or negative) thinking can directly affect the body’s biological and chemical composition. Check out Joan Borysenko for more information on this.
In Chinese Medicine, there is the strong belief in Qi energy. Qi energy is the life force circulating throughout the body, allowing it to function optimally. This energy is circulated via various energy pathways called meridians. Going further, along with 5-Element theory, each meridian belongs to one of five defined elements. For more information on 12 defined meridians, 5-Element theory and other related topics, check out my Shiatsu page.
