Effects of Massage and Bodywork
This is an exciting area for Professional Massage and Bodywork today. Current Research confirms ancient and "new" practices of massage and bodywork have direct benefits throughout the entire body (i.e. Musculoskeletal, Circulatory, Digestive, Lymphatic CranioSacral, etc…). Massage and Bodywork is gaining more recognition as an effective means for pain reduction. A time of suffering may be a time for slowing down and reflecting on experiences. However, discovering a source of pain, and allowing the mind/body connection to process it, may allow for it to be released. For example, in times of physical and/or emotional trauma, muscle guarding may take effect. When this happens, it can set restrictions in our minds and bodies. When the trauma has been dealt with, the muscle guarding may still be in effect, causing persistent contractions and/or pain signals that are no longer needed. Realizing that the trauma is no longer present or has been dealt with, through SomatoEmotional Release, may allow the muscle guarding to cease.
SomatoEmotional Release
"SomatoEmotional Release, a therapeutic process designed to rid your body of the residual effects of past injuries and negative experiences, is based on the concept that the whole body as well as each of its cells. Tissues, viscera and systems have independent and yet integrated consciousnesses" (excerpt from CranioSacral Therapy II, pg 77. by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM & Sheryl McGavin, OTR/L, CST-D, The Upledger Institute Publishing, Copyrighted 1987, Revised 2005).
