Focused Massage
Description
A focused treatment involves a unique combination of massage and bodywork techniques (i.e. Swedish, Deep Tissue, etc – See other modalities), which may also incorporate PNF Stretching and/or Trigger Point, for one of the following focused areas: Head, Neck, Shoulder(s), Chest, Upper Arm(s), Forearm(s), Wrist/Hand(s), Hip(s), Glute(s), Back, Upper Leg(s), Knee(s), Lower Leg(s) or Feet. Client may be fully clothed or properly draped. Oils and/or Cremes may or may not be used.
Trigger Points
Trigger Points are tender spots that cause pain referral patterns throughout the body. Gradual pressure is applied directly to the trigger point(s) to provide release and stop the associated pain referral pattern(s).
PNF Stretching
PNF Stretching (aka Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is a gentle form of passive stretching in which the therapist assists the client to stretch to his/her fullest range of motion within a pain-free zone. While at fullest range of motion, the client then contracts the muscle while the therapists adds matched resistance. Client then relaxes the muscle and steps are repeated to attempt greater range of motion. (This description is not meant for instructional purposes. PNF stretching should only be done be someone who is properly trained)
Recommended For
Potential benefits include breakdown of adhesions within muscles (i.e. due to lactic acid buildup or scar tissue) in muscle belly and attachments, improved posture, increased range of motion, injury prevention, faster recovery time from previous injury, increased blood supply and nutrients, reduced muscle soreness and elimination of pain referral patterns.
Not Recommended For
If taking muscle relaxants, stretching is not recommended as the muscles will have reduced ability for a contraction and an appropriate PNF response. It is best to obtain your physician’s written consent before seeking treatment for a pre-existing or unknown condition.
